about

Sama Kebbalu means 'tomorrow's elders'. In Gambia young boys and men sit under the mango trees and drink attaya and smoke weed while they wait for the easy life to fall down from the sky. Maybe cool in a rich country, not so cool in a poor one. They forget that tomorrow they are the ones who have to develop the country, to be the teachers, doctors, politicians and more. Without them there is no future. Many kids drop out of school. Some because of poverty, but some because they can't see the point if they can't get a job afterwards. Many young people want to travel, but while they are waiting I think they should make use of themselves somehow somewhere.

lyrics

kana jutala
kana ngomala
kana balangala

karambung tal sita
e marlong karango e monafa
kunkuto binde sita
e marlong senoye monafa
metye wato sita
e marlong metyoyeh monafa

al tol lom sama mansati
yeh sama karandila
aah sama metyi karandila

nga wuli wakilola
yeh nga katakutukata
sama sama kebbalu

Don’t diminish it
Don’t be lazy about it
Don’t refuse it

It’s time to go to school
You don’t know that school will benefit you
It’s time to go to the farm
You don’t know that the farm will benefit you
It’s time to learn something
You don’t know that an occupation will benefit you

You are tomorrow’s presidents
You are tomorrow’s teachers
You are tomorrow’s professionals

We have to stand up with enthusiasm
We have to pass the test
Tomorrow’s leaders
